Roadmap

Where Derived is going

What's in the app today, what's next, and what we've decided not to build. No dates, only things that are real. Want something here? Email derived@qubixcode.com.

Shipped

In the app today.

  • DerivedData by real project name

    1.0

Each hashed folder shown as the project it belongs to, with when you last built it.

  • Safe wins

    1.0

One click for what is obviously safe: package caches, deleted or stale projects, unusable simulators.

  • Simulator runtimes and devices

    1.0

Removed with Apple's own simctl. Running simulators are never touched.

  • Archives, Trash only

    1.0

App, version and upload status. Never selected for you, only ever moved to the Trash.

  • Device Support and package caches

    1.0

iOS, watchOS, tvOS and visionOS Device Support, plus SwiftPM, CocoaPods and Carthage caches.

  • Xcode-aware safety

    1.0

Skips projects open in Xcode, folders in use and everything while a build runs.

  • Custom Xcode locations

    1.0

Reads Xcode's own settings, so DerivedData on an external drive is found.

  • Pinned projects

    1.0

Side projects you rarely build are never suggested as stale.

  • Weekly scan and menu bar total

    1.0

Optional, off by default. Derived only reads in the background.

  • Automatic updates

    1.0

New versions install from inside the app. Signed and notarized by Apple.

  • License key everywhere you look

    1.0.1

Enter your key from the Overview, the Derived menu or Settings.

Next

Planned for the coming versions, in this order.

  • Swift Package caches per project

See how much of each project's DerivedData is downloaded packages, and clear just those.

  • Xcode Previews and test devices

SwiftUI Previews data and XCTestDevices, which can grow to several gigabytes.

  • Old Xcode versions

Spot Xcode copies in Applications you no longer use, with their size.

Later

Wanted, not scheduled yet. Tell us what you would use most.

  • Android Studio and Gradle caches

For cross-platform developers: Gradle caches and Android emulators.

  • Flutter, npm, yarn and pnpm caches

The other package caches on a mobile developer's Mac.

  • Scheduled Safe wins

Clean Safe wins automatically on a schedule you choose, with a summary afterwards.

Not planned

Things we have decided not to build, and why.

  • A Mac App Store version

The App Store sandbox can't read Xcode's folders or run simctl, so Derived is sold directly.

  • A subscription

Derived is a one-time purchase, and version 1 updates are included.

  • Accounts or cloud sync

Derived runs entirely on your Mac. Nothing to sign up for, and scans never leave it.

  • Touching your code or projects

Derived only removes caches and build data inside Xcode's own folders, never source, projects or certificates.
